Big Show for Boxing Day Bonanza!
A true Speedway fan knows it’s really the festive season when the Speedway gets back underway, the Boxing Night event at the Perth Motorplex traditionally one of the biggest on the calendar.
This year is no different, with a great twenty-two car field nominated for this Thursday night’s show which will double as Round Seven of the Pro Dirt Series, proudly presented by the team at ABN Trade Mates.
In the last twenty four years of the Boxing Day/Christmas Cup event at the Perth Motorplex, Late Models have been part of the program on twenty two occasions, some of the biggest names in the division claiming the win.
Last season it was Kye Blight (Kye Blight Racing) who grabbed victory, his fifth time doing so, meaning he leads the event stats, while Warren Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) and Brad Blake, who are both back in the field again this weekend, have both claimed it on four occasions.
Ryan Halliday has two wins, while Ben Ludlow, Marc Giancola, Brad Ludlow, American visitor Steve Francis, Michael Holmes, Brent Vosbergen and Jamie Oldfield each have one, Jamie joining Warren and Brad as the only other former winner in the field.
Jamie has a lot on the line this weekend, not only does he lead both the Pro Dirt Series and the XLI Late Model Track Championships, but he is running in a brand new Longhorn machine for the first time and cant wait to see what it can under race conditions.
Australian Champion Joe Chalmers (Team BCM Motorsport:) has come into some great form once again and would love to add another Motorplex win to his resume as he looks to close the points gap on Oldfield, while Luke Halliday (Halliday Racing) is third overall. Pleased with his consistent results so far, Halliday would love to find that little bit extra to get himself over the line in first place!
Warren Oldfield, fresh off a win in the last round, would love to equal Blight’s record of five wins in the Boxing Day Bonanza win and in the process advance himself further up the standings, while just behind him in fifth overall is Freddy Kinsella (Team Green Racing) and he too would love to continue, if not improve upon his consistent results.
Tasmanian visitor Brad Smith (Brad Smith Devil Motorsports 6T) is back in the field once again, and sitting just outside the top five in overall points he will be keen to make his way further up the standings, as will names like David Boyes (Boyes Motorsport), Rod Musarra (Team Rocket), and Peter Walker (Team Eighty1 Racing), who all hold down spots inside the top ten.
The field gets a little bigger this weekend, with a number of drivers making their first appearances. While Bradley Oldfield has tested the waters of Late Models a number of times this will be the first time he has entered a Pro Dirt event, while at the opposite end of the scale, two experienced Pro Dirt drivers in Matt Nylander (Nylander Motorsport) and Veronica McCann (Veronica McCann - Red Hot Racing) have signalled their intentions to return in three days time.
Both tested their machinery at practice last week, Nylander with some updated equipment while McCann is back from injury, and will be keen to settle back into the ranks quickly.
Ken Macpherson (KMM - Ken Macpherson Motorsport) has nominated to rejoin the field after an epic blow up earlier in the season while running strongly, while Jac Dolmans, former Australia #3 has also nominated for his first Pro Dirt Series show in a number of years.
Add in a whole host of other very quick names and this Thursday night show is going to be an epic way to enjoy the festive season!
