Late Model Racing Western Australia
Return to the ‘Plex
This weekend marks not just the second round of the 2024/25 Late Model Pro Dirt Series presented by ABN Trade Mates, but also the opening of the twenty-fifth season of the Perth Motorplex.
Late Models have proudly been part of the venue’s programming for the entirety of its existence, and with two hundred and forty-two Late Model feature events already completed at the venue, are firmly entrenched in the history.
Coming into the show there has been plenty of talk about last week’s epic feature, where Warren, Jason, and Jamie made it yet another Oldfield Racing trifecta to welcome in the new season.
All three are familiar with victory at the Motorplex: twenty-four, seven, and thirty career feature wins at the venue respectively. Jason hasn’t nominated for this show at time of writing, but Warren and Jamie will certainly come in as favourites to the Powerpalooza event, particularly considering both have previously won this event and Jamie coming in as the defending champion.
Veteran Brad Blake also can lay claim to being a contender, not just with his amazing history at the venue, but also his barnstorming run last week to come home fourth after starting in position nine at the Ellenbrook opening round. He too has won this event twice and would love to continue building his feature race numbers.
The only other former winner of Powerpalooza coming into this weekend is the returning Brent Vosbergen (Team Vosbergen Racing - TVR). After missing the opening round due to family commitments, Vosbergen is fired up and ready to go. He cut some laps at practice last week to get his eye back in and he will surely be a contender come feature time.
Others returning to the fold this weekend include David Nylander (Nylander Motorsport), Nathan Richards and Abbey Pickering (All About Racing) while for the first time ever, we welcome Ryan Huxtable (Huxy Racing) in the immaculate #25 machine. Huxy was another who cut some practice laps last week and the more he did, the better he looked, so watch out for this rookie contender!
Freddy Kinsella (Team Green Racing) made a few people sit up and take notice with his fine fifth place last weekend, while Tasmanian visitor Brad Smith (Brad Smith Devil Motorsports 6T) got his campaign off to a good start with sixth and will be looking to build on that this weekend.
Ken Macpherson (KMM - Ken Macpherson Motorsport) didn’t quite have the opener he was hoping for but still locked away a seventh-place finish while Rod Musarra (Team Rocket) was happy with an eighth place and is keen to improve on that this weekend. Luke Halliday (Halliday Racing) and David Boyes (Boyes Motorsport) rounded out the top ten finishers and both are back in the field this weekend.
Add in names like Jay Cardy (Cardy Racing Components) set to run his second car this weekend, Damian Hudson (Hudson Racing Team) and Peter Walker (Team Eighty1 Racing) who are hoping to bounce back from tough opening rounds where they recorded DNF’s, and of course Australian Champion Joe Chalmers (Team BCM Motorsport:) who unfortunately finished his opening night on the infield after running strongly in fourth, and there is plenty to fight for as the Motorplex roars back into life for the twenty-fifth time!
The Powerpalooza event is a motortainment event, with cars on track just after 4pm, so we will see you there!
