Late Model Racing Western Australia
The Most Anticipated Season Ever?
There has been a huge build-up to the 2024/25 Late Model Racing WA season and with good reason!
Huge shows, huge prize money, and huge prestige are all on the line as the Pro Dirt stars compete in what is quite possibly the biggest-ever season in Western Australia.
It will finally all get underway this Saturday as the Ellenbrook Speedway plays host to the traditional Pro Dirt Series opener, doubling as the Ray Tulk Memorial, and with a crack twenty car field nominated, the action is sure to be hot from the very first drop of the green flag.
Ray was a tireless worker for the Late Models back in the early days and upon his passing, a race was named in his honour at the track he is also a Life Member of. Now it is the traditional series opener and a must win event, with every racer striving to get their name on the trophy.
Last season it was the GOAT of Late Model racing in Australia, ‘The 0 Show’ Brad Blake who claimed the opening round, making it the fourth time he had won the Ray Tulk Memorial. He is keen to do the same again and kick off his season in the best possible way as he looks to add to his already epic Late Model resume.
Defending Pro Dirt Series Champion Warren Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) comes into the show as a six-time winner of this event, and after cutting some laps at a recent Ellenbrook show, he will surely be right on the pace as he looks to continue the momentum and get back up on top of the podium for the first time in a Pro Dirt feature event since January 2023.
The third and final former winner of this event in the field is Jamie Oldfield (Oldfield Racing), the same man who came, saw, and conquered in the most recent Pro Dirt Series round: the season finale at the Motorplex back in April. A three-time winner of this event, Jamie is very comfortable at his home venue and will hope to better his start to last season where he recorded a DNF.
At that same show, Ken Macpherson (KMM - Ken Macpherson Motorsport) and Jay Cardy (Cardy Racing Components) rounded out the podium, and considering the work both have put into their machinery in the off-season, they could well race their way to the front of the thirty-lap feature event come Saturday.
Australian Champion Joe Chalmers (Team BCM Motorsport:) returns from not just a racing trip in America, but also a busy weekend racing karts and he will be a massive chance to take out the main event, while others including the always quick Jason Oldfield (Oldfield Racing), Tasmanian visitor Brad Smith (Brad Smith Devil Motorsports 6T) and ‘Rocket’ Rod Musarra (Team Rocket) can also be expected to be right on the pace.
We welcome back to the fray ‘The Flying Pom’ Freddy Kinsella (Team Green Racing), who comes into this race as the last start winner at Ellenbrook after victory in the final round of the Winter Series, while names like Peter Walker (Team Eighty1 Racing) (debuting a new look), Peter Seaton (Peter Seaton Racing), Casey Paech and Rob Wells (CTM Recruitment Racing) are also fresh from that same series and keen to put their experience to the test.
Add in the travelling Kalgoorlie and Esperance contingent including David Boyes (Boyes Motorsport), Greg Horan (CPR - Chopper Pop Racing) and Damian Hudson (Hudson Racing Team), Geraldton’s Darren Ahearn (Ahearn Racing W.A), Chris Barrow (Barrow Motorsports) who is aboard a new machine and Luke Halliday (CTM Recruitment Racing/Ryan Halliday Racing) who can certainly never be written off, and we have a classy twenty car field ready to tear the Ellenbrook track up and put on a show for the fans!
We can’t wait to get underway, so we will see you this Saturday at Ellenbrook, with gates opening at 12pm and racing from 3pm!
