VETERANS BIGGEST SEASON?

Luke Halliday is one of the names that has been around Late Model racing since its inception.

His first recorded result was back in January of 1998, and his first win appears to have been at the Ellenbrook Speedway in September of 1998. From then on Luke built up an impressive resume that included the first ever Late Model feature race victory at the Perth Motorplex before stepping out of the seat for a number of years until he eventually returned to the fray.

“Last season was my first ever attempt at a full Pro Dirt season and to be honest, I was pretty happy with finishing inside the top ten (eighth position) considering we dropped one meeting” says Luke.

Amazingly, last season was also Luke’s first ever attempt at an Australian Title, an incredible stat considering how long he has been racing Late Models and even more so that he had to travel to Queensland to do it!

“We made the decision to trek over to Toowoomba for the Australian title which was a massive effort,” says Luke. “We finished fifth in the Queensland State Title on the Wednesday night prior and our goal to start with was to make the A main on the second night, which we knew wasn’t going to be easy with 44 cars all trying to secure a spot too! We achieved that, starting out of position seventeen and made our way up to ninth spot, With two laps to go my quarter panel was hit, causing the panel to cut down my tyre, which really disappointing because we knew we had a good car but overall it was a great experience and Toowoomba Speedway put on a hell of a show. Now have to rise to that benchmark in March at the Motorplex in an event we are so looking forward to!”
Indeed, with a big season coming up, Luke and the team have been hard at work getting ready.

“It was a big learning curve for us with regard to building our knowledge of set ups and the handling of the Rocket over the Longhorn but we learnt a lot over the time” reflects Luke. “In the off-season, we have completely stripped the car and have freshened up our motor to make the first round at Ellenbrook Speedway in October.”

With great family support, Luke and the team are planning to contest all rounds of the Pro Dirt Series this season, all going well. When asked about goals, Luke is pretty clear:

“Of course we have the goal of bettering their results from last season, but I simply want to be enjoying the season with the whole family!”

Luke would also like to thank the sponsors who are making his 2024/25 Pro Dirt campaign possible: CTM Recruitment, CT M Logistics, Northsyde Whitewalling, Greenholme Farming, Dongolocking Auto Electrics, Jacked Supplements and Dinos Bulk Haulage.

We can’t wait to see Luke and all of you trackside at Ellenbrook Speedway on the 12th of October!
