PRIMED FOR JOHN DAY CLASSIC !

The Pro Dirt Series for Late Models roar back into action this Saturday night at the Perth Motorplex for the much-loved John Day Classic, with a strong field of Late Models nominated to contest Round 4 of the 2025/26 season.

This event holds special significance across the WA speedway community, honouring the late John Day, one of the most iconic figures the sport has ever known.

For decades, John and his famous fleet of bright orange push cars were a staple at the Claremont Speedway and now the Perth Motorplex, bringing colour, character, and professionalism to every race night. His commitment to supporting competitors, his passion for the sport, and his ability to create an atmosphere like no other made him a beloved figure across multiple generations. The Classic stands as an annual reminder of the energy, heart, and community spirit he injected into WA speedway, proudly carried on by his family.

A quality lineup of Late Models will take to the clay, led into the round by current series points leader Joe Chalmers (Team BCM Motorsport:). Chalmers has been one of the standout performers in the early stages of the championship and will be looking to extend his advantage on Saturday night, particularly with second-placed Warren Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) not contesting the event. It’s a golden opportunity for Chalmers to build a buffer before the championship picture tightens further in the New Year.

Standing in his way is an experienced and competitive field. Former Australian Champion Brad Blake headlines the nominations and remains a constant threat at the Motorplex, while Brent Vosbergen (Team Vosbergen Racing - TVR) shapes as another major contender with the speed and form to push for a Classic win as a previous victor who is currently on an upward trend.

Emerging talents Beau Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) continues to make strides this season and could easily feature at the front if he settles into position early, while long term drivers including Jay Cardy (Cardy Racing Components) and Michael Holmes (Michael Holmes Racing) bring invaluable experience that always proves decisive on longer race nights.

Consistent performers including Ken Macpherson (KMM - Ken Macpherson Motorsport), David Nylander (Nylander Motorsport), Luke Halliday (Halliday Racing) and the returning Rod Musarra (Team Rocket) are all capable of upsetting the established order, each showing the potential to turn strong heat results into a feature-race push.

Adding further intrigue are popular competitors Veronica McCann (Veronica McCann - Red Hot Racing) and Abbey Pickering (All About Racing), both of whom continue to gain ground in their quest to get on the podium, as do a whole host of other drivers that round out the field!

With a quality lineup of Late Model competitors locked in, Saturday’s racing is shaping up to be fast, fierce, and unpredictable, exactly the way John Day himself would have wanted it. Expect plenty of intensity early as drivers battle for track position, with valuable championship points on the line and a prestigious event title up for grabs. The John Day Classic always means a packed crowd, big atmosphere, and memorable racing, and this year’s Late Model field looks ready to live up to the occasion!
