BLIGHT DOMINATES ROUND EIGHT AT THE MOTORPLEX!
Kye Blight (Kye Blight Racing) was in a class of his own on Saturday night at the Perth Motorplex, delivering a flawless performance to claim Round Eight of the Pro Dirt Series, proudly presented by Scardifields Smash Repairs.
Blight was untouchable from start to finish, winning every race he contested and capping the night off with a commanding victory in the thirty-lap feature.
Blight and Joe Chalmers (Team BCM Motorsport:) emerged from the heat races undefeated to lock out the front row for the thirty-lap main event.
Chalmers made the early getaway when the green flag dropped, while Beau Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) made an electrifying start, diving underneath a pack of cars to snatch third and then doing all he could to close the gap on the lead two cars.
As Chalmers settled into the low line and Blight committed to the high side, the early laps set the tone for a thrilling battle, with Rod Musarra (Team Rocket), Warren Oldfield (Oldfield Racing), Ken Macpherson (KMM - Ken Macpherson Motorsport) and Jamie Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) in hot pursuit of the lead trio.
Blight wasted little time applying pressure and by lap four had edged ahead to take control of the race. From there, the A1 machine steadily stretched the margin, negotiating lapped traffic with ease as the laps ticked away.
Behind him, Beau Oldfield closed onto the rear of Chalmers, only for traffic to briefly swing momentum back in Chalmers’ favour. The complexion of the race changed again when a caution was shown for David Nylander (Nylander Motorsport) with nine laps remaining, setting up a dash to the finish with all cars but Nylander still on track.
On the restart, Oldfield pounced, quickly moving past Chalmers for second, while Ken Macpherson surged forward before being reeled back in by Warren and Jamie Oldfield.
With just a handful of laps remaining, Chalmers came under intense pressure from both Oldfields, but out front Blight was long gone, charging to the chequered flag with a winning margin of 3.419 seconds and recording the fastest lap of the race at 17.664 seconds.
Blight took the victory ahead of Beau Oldfield, with Chalmers hanging on for third ahead of Jamie Oldfield and Warren Oldfield rounding out the top five.
The Late Models now enjoy only a brief pause before heading south to Bunbury Speedway this weekend for their only appearance at the venue this season, contesting Round Nine of the Pro Dirt Series, proudly presented by Heatleys Safety, Industrial & Automotive.
