Late Model Racing Western Australia

Honouring Blakey

Late Models will make their only appearance at Bunbury Speedway for the season this weekend, with the ninth round of the 2025/26 Pro Dirt Series presented by Heatleys Safety, Industrial & Automotive doubling as a very special event, the second running of the Michael Holmes Racing Allan Blake Classic.

While championship points are on the line, this weekend is about far more than the series standings. After a short break since the inaugural Classic, the Bunbury surface has undergone a revamp, and teams are eager to not only test out the upgraded track, but also show their support for newly appointed Track Manager Brad Blake, son of Allan Blake.

Allan Blake’s contribution to speedway in Western Australia is immense. A former National Sedan Champion in the 1970s, Blake also served as General Manager of the Bunbury Car Club in its early years and was heavily involved in the formative days of Late Models. His legacy has been recognised with inductions into both the Speedway Australia Hall of Fame and the Speedway Sedans Western Australia Hall of Fame, making this weekend a fitting tribute to one of the sport’s true pioneers.

Fittingly, Blake Blake himself is in the field and will be hoping to use his home-track knowledge to his advantage as he looks to turn back the clock and add another memorable Bunbury win to his résumé.

The field is stacked with contenders capable of taking victory at a venue that has hosted the Pro Dirt Series an impressive twenty seven times previously.

When Late Models last visited Bunbury two seasons ago, Warren Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) and Joe Chalmers (Team BCM Motorsport:) both stood on the podium, and they again loom as major threats.

Chalmers arrives leading the Pro Dirt Series points, with event sponsor Michael Holmes (Michael Holmes Racing) sitting second overall. Beau Oldfield (Oldfield Racing), fresh off a career-best second place at the previous round, is just two points back in third, ensuring the championship battle remains tight heading into this pivotal night.

Former Bunbury winner Jamie Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) returns to the field, having last tasted Late Model success at the venue on New Year’s Day in 2023, and knows exactly what it takes to get the job done at the Bullring.

Jay Cardy (Cardy Racing Components) has found strong consistency over recent shows and will be keen to convert that into a podium result, while Luke Halliday (Halliday Racing) is back after engine issues sidelined him earlier and has ground to make up in the points chase.

Further depth comes from David Nylander (Nylander Motorsport), Abbey Pickering (All About Racing), Peter Walker (Team Eighty1 Racing) and David Boyes (Boyes Motorsport), all currently inside the top ten in series standings and looking to improve their positions.

Add in the likes of Ken Macpherson (KMM - Ken Macpherson Motorsport), Rod Musarra (Team Rocket) and Damian Hudson (Hudson Racing Team), and the list of potential winners only grows longer.

With history, pride and championship momentum all on the line, the Allan Blake Classic shapes as a must-see night of Late Model racing, and with Bunbury hosting the class for the only time this season, it’s a show fans won’t want to miss!
