Late Model Racing Western Australia

Road to 300!

This weekend is a special one for the Late Models as they contest the 300th round of the Pro Dirt Series, so it is only fitting that a number of the most prolific winners in the series history are also choosing Saturday night’s event to return to action in the biggest field of the season!

Leading the charge of course is ‘The GOAT’ of WA Late Model racing, ‘The 0 Show’. With nearly a quarter of the Pro Dirt Series wins to his name (71 out of the 299 so far, or just under 24%), Blake declared at the start of the season he wasn’t done yet and with his form improving in recent weeks, he will be one to watch this weekend.

Next in the all-time winners list is, unsurprisingly, Warren Oldfield (Oldfield Racing). When you win as many championships as he has, the wins will certainly add up, and with a couple of wins already to his name this season, he is in prime form to claim another, hoping to make it his thirty third.

Jamie Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) isn’t just the last start winner at the Motorplex but also rounds out the top three with 30 Pro Dirt Series victories to his name so far. Can he continue to peg back some wins on his brother?

The two aforementioned returning drivers this weekend are none other than Craig Vosbergen (Team Vosbergen Racing - TVR) and Ben Ludlow (Ludlow Racing). Craig has run sporadic meetings over the last few years and returning this weekend seems to be a sign that not only does he want to add to his twenty three career Pro Dirt feature wins (fifth all time) but that he is getting ready for some of the big shows coming up. Ben is in the same boat, though his runs have been few and far between in recent years. He too has five Pro Dirt Series feature wins to his name and will relish the opportunity to get back out there and mix it up with the Pro Dirt regulars.

Joe Chalmers (Team BCM Motorsport:) has added four wins to his name this season alone, rocketing him up the charts with six total wins and he too will be keen to grab some more: if he wins this weekend it will tie him with Marc Giancola in the list!

Looking through the rest of the field there are a number of others who have also written their names into the Pro Dirt Series history books. Matt Goodlad (Daytona Racing) is another returnee this weekend and he already has four wins to his name, joining Jason Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) who also has four.

Regulars Jay Cardy (Cardy Racing Components) and Michael Holmes (Michael Holmes Racing) have three apiece and Kodee Brown(McCorry Brown Racing Team), who returned to racing again last weekend at Albany, has two victories to his name, rounding out those who are in this weekend’s field who have a Pro Dirt win to their name.

Out of the thirty gentlemen who have found themselves on the victory dais so far, eleven of them are running this weekend and would love to continue building their racing resumes.

Of course, this means there are another seventeen drivers who have not, as yet, made their way onto the top of the Pro Dirt podium despite plenty of tries.
Names like Rod Musarra (Team Rocket), Veronica McCann (Veronica McCann - Red Hot Racing), Luke Halliday (Halliday Racing) and Freddy Kinsella (Team Green Racing) have certainly come close in the past and will be hoping that with a bit of luck they can achieve a career goal this weekend.

Interestingly, if you exclude American visitors, only two interstate drivers have won a Pro Dirt Series round… can Tasmanian Brad Smith (Brad Smith Devil Motorsports 6T), New South Welshman Bruce Mackenzie or Victorian Brendan Hucker (Hucker Racing) change that this weekend?

There are plenty of stories to tell and more chapters to be written in the Pro Dirt Series, so make sure you are at the Motorplex this weekend to witness history!
