Late Model Racing Western Australia

Hump Day Hustle!

Just four days removed from an epic Australian Championship, the Late Models will hit the Perth Motorplex track once again, this time for the Hump Day Hustle, proudly presented by Michael Holmes Racing!

Thirty-five drivers have decided to hang around for the Hustle, including newly minted Australian Late Model Champion Kye Blight (Kye Blight Racing).

Blight is the red-hot favourite for the show due to a dominant performance in the Title event and after leading so many laps in such a fashion, the other drivers will be hard pressed to chase him down.

Of course, Blight certainly won’t have it easy, with Australia #2 Myles Moos and Australia #3 Jamie Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) both in the field.

Moos will be racing event sponsor Michael Holmes’ car and after pressuring Blight for much of the race on Saturday night, he certainly has a point to prove.
Jamie Oldfield was also thrilled to win the WA Title a few weeks ago and after another consistent performance in the Australian Title he would love to continue that consistent run and even break through for win #4 of the season.

Former Aussie champion Joe Chalmers (Team BCM Motorsport:) finished a solid fourth last weekend in his title defense. Now back aboard the familiar #23, Joe will be looking for his sixth win of the season and with plenty of raw speed, that is a big possibility.

Kodee Brown (McCorry Brown Racing Team) has returned to form in the last few weeks and a fifth in the Championship final has certainly buoyed his hopes of running at the front of the pack again tomorrow night.

The veteran Brad Blake promised a big performance in the Title and he certainly didn’t disappoint, turning back the clocks once again and running with the best of them. He too has nominated for tomorrow mid-week show and would love to add another win to his already record setting career.

Brent Vosbergen (Team Vosbergen Racing - TVR) qualified on the front row for the Title final but by his own admission missed the setup and drifted back to seventh. The former Aussie champion will not dwell on that fact though, the team resetting and going after another win.

Luke Halliday (Halliday Racing) was a solid eighth place in the Championship final, his best ever finish. He has been consistent all season, now even running second in the XLI Perth Motorplex Track Championship and he would love another good result to solidify that position.

Ninth in the final was New South Welshman Todd Bayley, who just got better and better as the weekend progressed. Now that he has a handle on the Plex once again he is sure to be a tough nut to crack.

With the top nine drivers in the Nation nominating for tomorrow’s Nation, one would think the show will be at maximum hype level, and when you consider the other names also in the field including Veronica McCann, Craig Vosbergen, Lachlan Onley, Jacob Crocker, Jay Cardy, Rod Musarra, Darren Kane, Ben Nicastri, Joe Godsey and Brad Smith, who all made the championship final, plus a pile of other names, this is a show that is certainly to absolutely blow up your mid-week!

The Hump Day Hustle event will adopt a new format that has not been contested by Late Models previously, though race fans will be familiar as it has been utilised by another division for a number of seasons. All teams will draw a ball when they sign in, which will put them into groups. These groups will qualify against each other, the top four inverted for the heat race with the rest lines up as per their fastest time. After qualifying and heats are completed, all points are combined, the top twelve split into odds and evens for the A and B Dash.

Positions thirteen to twenty will contest a mid-pack dash while drivers twenty-one on will contest a B Main which will decide the final four drivers into the feature event.

Engine Starts are from 5.30pm with hot laps qualifying beginning shortly after.
