Chalmers Wins Epic Show!

Last night at the Kalgoorlie International Speedway former Aussie Champ Joe Chalmers (Team BCM Motorsport:) and current Aussie Champ Kye Blight (Kye Blight Racing) put on an epic show, but in the end it was Chalmers who stood tall to be the first to claim a second Red Dirt Rumble victory!

Seventeen cars would front for qualifying with Chalmers and Blight going one, two, while in the heat races Chalmers and Blight would each claim two wins apiece to be top points. David Boyes (Boyes Motorsport) and Ben Strautins (BAS Racing) would claim the other two heat wins.

In the pole shuffle again Chalmers and Blight would be the last two standing, Chalmers also claiming that win. Event organisers then offered both drivers a $1000 bonus to start the feature race from the rear, which they each accepted.

This put Warren Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) onto the front row for the feature and he took the opportunity as the thirty-five lap race went green, racing into the lead ahead of Boyes and Strautins.

On lap five Mat Robbins (@Robbins Motorsport) took over the third place running while behind him Chalmers and Blight were weaving their way through the field, both into the top five by the seventh circulation.

Blight would be ahead of Chalmers at this point, moving into second on lap eight and setting out after Oldfield, while Chalmers would grab third the next time around.

Chalmers closed on Blight and got past on lap eleven, then took just two laps to catch and pass Oldfield to take over the point.

From here Chalmers began to stretch his legs and race away while Blight simply could not get past Oldfield, the duo waging battle lap after lap, even after the one and only stoppage of the race.

Although Chalmers was also bought back to the field on the stoppage it mattered little as he raced away once again, going on to claim the victory by nearly five seconds.

Blight got around Oldfield in turn two of the final lap as lapped traffic came into play to claim second, leaving Oldfield to round out the podium in third.

Last night’s show would officially bring the 2024/25 LMRWA season schedule to a close, with the annual awards night to be held next weekend.
