Blight Dominates Again at Albany!

Kye Blight (Kye Blight Racing) continued his remarkable love affair with Albany Speedway Clubon Saturday night, delivering a commanding performance to win Round Seven of the Pro Dirt Series, proudly presented by Albany World of Cars.

The victory marked Blight’s sixth Pro Dirt Series feature win at Albany Speedway and his 30th career Pro Dirt Series feature triumph, achieved after a flawless night that underlined his dominance at the venue.

Blight was unbeatable from the outset, setting the fastest time in qualifying before backing it up with victories in both of his heat races to earn pole position for the 30-lap feature event. Joining him on the front row was Warren Oldfield (Oldfield Racing), who mirrored Blight’s heat race success with two wins of his own, and qualifying second fastest.

When the green flag dropped, Blight launched cleanly, but Oldfield produced a sensational start around the outside and powered into the lead on the opening lap. Blight settled into second as the leading pair quickly distanced themselves from the field, with Beau Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) locking into third.

The first caution appeared early when Damian Hudson (Hudson Racing Team) spun on the front straight. The initial restart attempt was aborted after multiple cars encountered issues, leaving David Boyes (Boyes Motorsport) spinning in turn four before the race was finally brought back to green.

Oldfield again led the field away, with Blight in pursuit as Joe Chalmers (Team BCM Motorsport:) slid underneath Beau Oldfield to take over third position, the order now Warren Oldfield, Blight, Chalmers, Beau Oldfield and Michael Holmes (Michael Holmes Racing).

Blight applied heavy pressure to Warren Oldfield, drawing alongside him around the five-lap mark, but was unable to complete the pass as the leaders approached lapped traffic.

Over the next several laps Blight launched multiple challenges on the inside, only for Oldfield to defend strongly. Lapped traffic again played a role, momentarily allowing Oldfield to stretch the gap.

Blight regrouped and closed in once more, but just as the pressure peaked, Oldfield slowed and retired to the infield, handing Blight a commanding lead of more than four seconds over Chalmers, with Oldfield about the same margin further back.

With nineteen laps complete, the yellow lights returned for Mat Robbins (Robbins Motorsport ), who came to rest against the turn four wall. Beau Oldfield also retired during the caution period.

On the restart Blight was unstoppable, racing away from Chalmers and Holmes, while further back Jay Cardy (Cardy Racing Components) applied pressure to Peter Walker (Team Eighty1 Racing) in the battle for fourth. Another caution followed with six laps remaining for debris, creating anxious moments when Chalmers slowed with apparent issues. Fortunately, all seven remaining cars were able to resume.

Blight once again surged clear at the restart and maintained control to the chequered flag. Chalmers held on for second despite slowing in the closing stages, narrowly keeping Holmes at bay, while Cardy challenged and passed Walker for fourth before the chequers flew.

The Late Models now enjoy only a brief break before heading back to the Perth Motorplex for Round Eight of the Pro Dirt Series, proudly presented by Scardifield Smash Repairs.
