Oldfield Back on Top!
Considering how long Warren Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) has been racing Late Models, one may think there wouldn’t be too many firsts left, but last night he found one, winning his first ever Pro Dirt Series round at the Tyres & More Esperance Speedway.
The victory would be Warren’s thirty seventh Pro Dirt feature win, and he did it in style, leading from green to chequers, surviving every restart and claiming a convincing win ahead of nephew Beau Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) and series points leader Joe Chalmers (Team BCM Motorsport:).
Brother Jamie initially challenged Warren before going up in a pile of smoke on lap four and heading infield, which elevated local hero Mat Robbins (Robbins Motorsport ) into second ahead of Peter Walker (Team Eighty1 Racing).
A number of stoppages would slow the race down, but Warren held strong at the front, while Chalmers, Rod Musarra (Team Rocket) and last start feature race winner Abbey Pickering (All About Racing) continued to pick their way forward.
Walker ended his night on the infield after running in third and a few laps later second placed Robinson would join him after contact in the fight for second saw him in the turn four wall, Warren Oldfield now leading Beau Oldfield and Abbey Pickering.
Finally, the race settled into a rhythm, the order at the front remaining unchanged, before the cautions came out again, plenty of cars visiting the infield as they were checked for damage.
Again the race resumed, and as the cars on track dropped to just nine, Chalmers was able to race past Pickering for third with ten to go. From here the run to the chequers was clear, the only change being Jeff Pahl (Pahly Racing) getting by Ben Strautins (BAS Racing) for fifth, as Warren raced to claim his fourth feature race win of the season.
Teams now have just a few hours to prepare their machinery and dash down the road to Kalgoorlie International Speedway for tonight’s Pro Dirt Series Round 12!
