Oldfield Claims Commanding Feature Victory
Beau Oldfield has continued his strong run of form, delivering a decisive performance to claim the feature race win at Pithara Speedway today.
While preliminary heats set the grid and provided plenty of action, with Chris Barrow and Beau Oldfield claiming the wins, the main focus was firmly fixed on the 15-lap feature.
Nine of the ten cars who started the day greeted the starter after mechanical issues sidelined Matt Sangston on the dummy grid, but those who did take the green flag put on an entertaining display.
Oldfield made the best of the start to lead early, with Wade Cleary and Jay Bassanelli slotting in behind. Just two laps in, Oldfield drifted high in turn two, opening the door for Cleary who drew alongside down the back straight. The pair ran wheel-to-wheel before Cleary spun entering turn three at high speed, forcing the first caution of the race.
On the restart Oldfield was quick to reassert control, leaving Bassanelli and Chris Barrow to contest the minor placings. Behind them, Ewan Dickson and Nic Marshall fought hard until Cleary, recovering from the earlier spin, surged back into the top five with a determined drive.
As the laps wound down, Oldfield and Bassanelli stretched their advantage while Barrow, Dickson, and Cleary engaged in close-quarters racing. Lapped traffic midway through the race provided Oldfield with the break he needed, and from that point the outcome was never in doubt. He powered away to a convincing victory, crossing the line more than five seconds clear.
Bassanelli claimed second, Cleary recovered strongly to take third, while Barrow and Dickson rounded out the top five.
The final round of the Michael Holmes Racing Winter Series will be held at the Ellenbrook Speedway on the 28th of September.
